Un LLM, aussi puissant soit-il, oublie tout d\u00e8s que la fen\u00eatre de contexte se referme. Les frameworks comme LangGraph ou CrewAI orchestrent des \u00e9tapes, mais laissent au d\u00e9veloppeur la charge de g\u00e9rer la persistance, le r\u00e9sum\u00e9, la hi\u00e9rarchisation des souvenirs. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/letta-ai\/letta\">Letta<\/a><\/strong>, anciennement <em>MemGPT<\/em>, issu d&rsquo;une publication de recherche de l&rsquo;UC Berkeley, prend le probl\u00e8me par l&rsquo;autre bout&nbsp;: c&rsquo;est une plateforme d&rsquo;agents o\u00f9 la m\u00e9moire est un citoyen de premi\u00e8re classe, trait\u00e9e comme un syst\u00e8me d&rsquo;exploitation g\u00e8rerait la hi\u00e9rarchie RAM \/ disque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">L&rsquo;h\u00e9ritage MemGPT&nbsp;: la m\u00e9moire vue comme un OS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;article fondateur proposait une analogie simple&nbsp;: la fen\u00eatre de contexte d&rsquo;un LLM ressemble \u00e0 de la RAM&nbsp;: rapide, co\u00fbteuse, limit\u00e9e. Le reste des connaissances d&rsquo;un agent doit vivre sur un  \u00ab&nbsp;disque&nbsp;\u00bb externe que le LLM sait paginer \u00e0 la demande. Letta industrialise cette id\u00e9e avec plusieurs couches&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Core memory<\/strong> (blocs <em>persona<\/em> et <em>human<\/em>)&nbsp;: toujours pr\u00e9sente dans le prompt, modifiable par l&rsquo;agent lui-m\u00eame via des outils.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Recall memory<\/strong>&nbsp;: historique complet des \u00e9changes, consultable via recherche.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Archival memory<\/strong>&nbsp;: m\u00e9moire \u00e0 long terme de type base vectorielle, que l&rsquo;agent interroge quand il a besoin de se souvenir.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tool-driven updates<\/strong>&nbsp;: l&rsquo;agent d\u00e9cide explicitement quand mettre \u00e0 jour sa m\u00e9moire, en appelant des fonctions d\u00e9di\u00e9es.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette architecture change une chose essentielle&nbsp;: l&rsquo;agent <em>sait<\/em> qu&rsquo;il a une m\u00e9moire, il apprend \u00e0 s&rsquo;en servir, et son comportement s&rsquo;am\u00e9liore au fil des interactions sans r\u00e9-entra\u00eenement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ce que Letta propose concr\u00e8tement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Un <strong>serveur d&rsquo;agents auto-h\u00e9bergeable<\/strong> (Docker Compose fourni, y compris une variante avec vLLM int\u00e9gr\u00e9 pour tourner 100% en local).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Une <strong>API REST<\/strong> pour cr\u00e9er des agents, leur envoyer des messages, inspecter et modifier leur m\u00e9moire \u2014 parfaite pour int\u00e9grer dans ses applications existantes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Des <strong>SDK officiels<\/strong> en Python et TypeScript.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Une <strong>interface web (Letta ADE)<\/strong> pour visualiser les agents, leurs blocs de m\u00e9moire, leurs outils et leurs traces de raisonnement, un atout pr\u00e9cieux pour le d\u00e9bogage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Un <strong>mod\u00e8le agnostique<\/strong>&nbsp;: OpenAI, Anthropic, ou tout endpoint compatible OpenAI (Ollama, vLLM, LiteLLM).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>La licence <strong>Apache 2.0<\/strong>, sans ambigu\u00eft\u00e9 sur l&rsquo;usage commercial et la redistribution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exemple d&rsquo;agent avec m\u00e9moire structur\u00e9e<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>En Python, la cr\u00e9ation d&rsquo;un agent tient en quelques lignes&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>from letta_client import Letta\n\nclient = Letta(base_url=\"http:\/\/localhost:8283\")\n\nagent = client.agents.create(\n    model=\"ollama\/llama3.1:70b\",\n    embedding=\"ollama\/nomic-embed-text\",\n    memory_blocks=&#91;\n        {\"label\": \"persona\",\n         \"value\": \"Je suis un assistant interne pour l'\u00e9quipe projet.\"},\n        {\"label\": \"human\",\n         \"value\": \"Nom&nbsp;: Louis. Lors d&rsquo;une future conversation, m\u00eame des semaines plus tard, il recherchera ce souvenir au moment opportun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Letta face \u00e0 Mem0, LangGraph, CrewAI<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Le paysage peut pr\u00eater \u00e0 confusion, mais les outils ne jouent pas dans la m\u00eame cat\u00e9gorie&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/askem.eu\/en\/2026\/04\/09\/langgraph-construire-des-agents-ia-autonomes-avec-orchestration-memoire-et-outils\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"2212\">LangGraph<\/a><\/strong> et <strong>CrewAI<\/strong> sont des frameworks d&rsquo;orchestration&nbsp;: le d\u00e9veloppeur \u00e9crit la machine \u00e0 \u00e9tats, les r\u00f4les, et ajoute de la m\u00e9moire \u00e0 la main si besoin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/askem.eu\/en\/2026\/04\/22\/mem0-donner-une-memoire-persistante-a-ses-agents-ia-open-source\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"2271\">Mem0<\/a><\/strong> est une brique m\u00e9moire \u00e0 greffer sur un framework existant \u2014 utile si l&rsquo;on a d\u00e9j\u00e0 une stack et qu&rsquo;on veut ajouter du souvenir persistant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/letta-ai\/letta\">Letta<\/a><\/strong> est une plateforme compl\u00e8te&nbsp;: un serveur, une API, des agents persistants par d\u00e9faut. On ne reconstruit pas la boucle m\u00e9moire soi-m\u00eame.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Le choix d\u00e9pend donc du besoin&nbsp;: si l&rsquo;agent est un composant ponctuel dans un workflow plus large (par exemple un n\u0153ud n8n), Mem0 greff\u00e9 sur LangGraph suffira. Si l&rsquo;objectif est de faire vivre un ou plusieurs <em>assistants<\/em> qui capitalisent dans le temps&nbsp;: support interne, tuteur p\u00e9dagogique, compagnon de projet, Letta fait gagner des semaines de plomberie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D\u00e9ploiement type auto-h\u00e9berg\u00e9<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Le d\u00e9p\u00f4t fournit un <code>compose.yaml<\/code> pr\u00eat \u00e0 l&#8217;emploi avec PostgreSQL (pour la persistance des agents et la m\u00e9moire), le serveur Letta, et optionnellement vLLM pour l&rsquo;inf\u00e9rence locale. Pour une infrastructure existante, on peut brancher un Ollama ou un vLLM d\u00e9j\u00e0 en place via la variable d&rsquo;environnement <code>OLLAMA_BASE_URL<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les points de vigilance classiques restent valables&nbsp;: placer le serveur derri\u00e8re un reverse proxy avec TLS, prot\u00e9ger l&rsquo;API par un m\u00e9canisme d&rsquo;authentification (les jetons Letta \u00e0 d\u00e9faut d&rsquo;un SSO), sauvegarder la base PostgreSQL qui contient toute la m\u00e9moire accumul\u00e9e par les agents. Pr\u00e9voir aussi de tracer les appels d&rsquo;outils&nbsp;: un agent qui r\u00e9\u00e9crit sa m\u00e9moire doit \u00eatre auditable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Limites \u00e0 conna\u00eetre avant de se lancer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Les performances de la boucle m\u00e9moire d\u00e9pendent fortement de la qualit\u00e9 du mod\u00e8le \u00e0 manipuler des appels d&rsquo;outils. En local, il faut viser au minimum Llama 3.1 70B ou un \u00e9quivalent Qwen pour obtenir un comportement stable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>La courbe d&rsquo;apprentissage est r\u00e9elle&nbsp;: comprendre la diff\u00e9rence entre core \/ recall \/ archival memory et savoir designer les blocs demande un peu de pratique.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>L&rsquo;\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me \u00e9volue vite&nbsp;: sur des versions ant\u00e9rieures \u00e0 0.5, l&rsquo;API a connu des ruptures significatives. Pin les versions en production.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour les cas tr\u00e8s simples (une question, une r\u00e9ponse), Letta est sur-dimensionn\u00e9. Son int\u00e9r\u00eat commence \u00e0 partir du moment o\u00f9 l&rsquo;agent doit se souvenir au-del\u00e0 d&rsquo;une session.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Position strat\u00e9gique dans une stack IA open source<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Letta compl\u00e8te plus qu&rsquo;il ne concurrence les briques d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9voqu\u00e9es sur ce site. Ollama ou vLLM fournissent l&rsquo;inf\u00e9rence, Qdrant ou pgvector servent de substrat vectoriel pour la m\u00e9moire d&rsquo;archive, Langfuse trace ce que fait l&rsquo;agent, n8n ou un front maison expose l&rsquo;agent aux utilisateurs. Letta occupe la place d&rsquo;un <em>agent runtime<\/em>&nbsp;: un serveur d\u00e9di\u00e9 aux agents persistants, au m\u00eame niveau de maturit\u00e9 qu&rsquo;un serveur applicatif traditionnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat profond de Letta n&rsquo;est pas technique, il est strat\u00e9gique&nbsp;: en rendant la m\u00e9moire <em>native<\/em>, il ouvre la porte \u00e0 des agents qui ne repartent pas de z\u00e9ro \u00e0 chaque conversation.
